Russian: When the hero sets out on his adventure, and enters the forest, he is not in Russia anymore. In fact, he is not in the "normal" world (in a magic-tale sense) at all. So the baba-yaga recognizes the hero as "Russian," and therefore foreign (or human, depending on your understanding of the magic-tale world).
