Levon: The name of the wolf is somewhat unexpected and less onomatopoeic, in this variant of the tale, than the names of the fox and the bear: wolf, in Russian, is volk ("vohlk"). Levon is a form of Lev, the Russian form of Leo (as in Leo Tolstoy). And lev ("lehv"), the noun, means lion, as does Leo (as in the astrological sign).
