Watch the geese: Of course, you would not expect royal princes to be sent to watch the geese. But you must remember that Russian folk tales have come to us from the villages, and elements to which the peasants could relate appear in the tales, even though they make little sense in the context of the tale itself. Watching the geese was a task for children, hence a demeaning one for an adult (much more so a prince of the land!).
