Forest: The forest is the place where dangerous or magical things happen, and where magical beings dwell. In tales with male or female heroes, entering the forest means crossing the threshhold from the everyday world into the world of the magic tale. It marks the moment when all things become possible and the rules of ordinary life cease to apply.
It is the natural environment for tales about animals. A bear in such a tale may not be possessed of magical abilities, but neither is it an ordinary bear out of the ordinary life, and so the folk-tale bears lives in the folk-tale forest.
In soldier tales, it is a supernatural place similar to that of the magic tales with male or female heroes, but the events, rules, and characters are slightly different.
