Thirty-three: 33 is one of the "magic" numbers of the folk tales. Almost everything occurs in multiples or combinations of 3: three brothers (or sisters), the three baba-yagas of this tale, three sazhens-high walls, etc. Of course, we have to remember the reputed age of 33 at which Jesus Christ was crucified.
